How long do awnings last? Assessing fabric, frames and drives
Fabric, frames and drives do not age at the same rate. What to look for when considering care, repair or replacement.

Age is not the only factor
A single lifespan figure cannot adequately describe your installation. Location, usage, care and weather exposure affect its condition. Fabric, frames and drives may also age at different rates within the same system. A visual assessment and existing documentation are more useful than the installation year alone.
Consider the fabric separately from the frame
Look for tears, visible wear and changes to seams or connections. Ageing fabric does not automatically mean the entire frame needs replacement. Whether new fabric is appropriate and technically possible depends on the system condition and availability of a suitable specification.
Observe operation and movement
Record unfamiliar sounds, uneven movement or recurring interruptions. Do not force blocked components. Photographs, model details and a description of the fault help with the initial enquiry. Work on mechanisms, electrical connections or fixings should be handled by qualified professionals.
How useful are lifespan figures?
Manufacturer guidance provides context for the products described, not a guarantee for every installation. STOBAG’s care guide, for example, distinguishes between fabric and frame lifespans. Actual condition, previous use and continuing spare-part availability remain central to your own decision.
Next steps for your awning
Gather an overall photograph, detail images, approximate age and available service records. Explain whether you want to restore operation or update the controls as well. MOM Storen can discuss the assessment and next steps appropriate to your enquiry.
